Puppy Farmers advertise because they breed perfusely and need constant advertising. Ask a breeder if the parents have been Hip Scored and Eye Tested. WHY ? You'll find out with the Vet's Bill if you don't, trust me !!! Ask the breeder for the dog's Kennel Names then ask the British Veterinary Association for the records and results of these tests (which they hold). If NO tests are done, walk away, DONT FUND PUPPY FARMERS. Ethical breeders charge EXACTLY the same as the puppy farmers, did you know that ??? Ethical breeders let you walk around their kennels and inspect both parents and tell you the bad points of this breed. Ethical Breeders don't CROSSBREED or claim to be specialists. ANYONE can buy a Licence from the Council for breeding. Ethical breeders DONT steal another Kennels's name and choose their own. Ethical breeders don't breed from a bitch that's under 2 years old. Ask the breeder to see the pedigrees of the parents so that you can check the date of birth of the parents. Health reasons are a big issue. If your Malamute is NOT hip scored, you don't know how bad it's Hip Dysplasia is do you ??? Ethical breeders only breed from dogs that ARE Hip scored and the score is under the desired range. This is done for a reason. You may be able to buy a Malamute NOW, TODAY, but is it worth the risk when you will be paying ££££££ in the long run on vet's fees. There are xxxx amount of Malamutes in Malamute Rescue, why add more ? Ethical breeders ONLY breed from dogs with a proven sound temperament in the Show Ring and Working. ALL Malamutes have lots of CHAMPIONS in their lines, it's inevitable. ALL PUPPIES have sound temperaments at 8 weeks of age. If pups are brought up with children, so what ??? If they don't then see a child for a month or two, who knows ? It's not an excuse to prove temperament. Temperament of dogs from Pup Farmers CANNOT be guaranteed. If a breeder CLAIMS to health test their dogs, again ask for the dogs Kennel Name then ask the BVA. Ethical breeders ONLY breed from dogs that are of the Breed standard (look like the breed should) Ask your breeder how many shows they have had their dogs entered and what results they have. Ask your breeder about how to Work a Malamute and to show you how to put a harness on ??? Ethical breeders are worth their weight in gold. If a breeder refused to show you around the whole of their premises and view ALL of their dogs, WALK AWAY. Check with TRADING STANDARDS for any outstanding complaints. Check with RSPCA and their local COUNCIL for any complaints pending. DO NOT give/send a deposit BEFORE you view the puppies. The amount of litters produced by a specific breeder can be checked with the Kennel Club. Ask the Kennel Club if the Kennel Name even exists. Save THIS as part of YOUR list of questions for breeders. BEWARE of breeders that breed MORE than 1 breed and CROSSBREED. Ethical breeders can be found by joining (Google) ICEBAYMALS a FREE forum for Malamute lovers/Exhibitors/Breeders/owners to discuss chat about Mals. DO NOT FUND PUPPY FARMING OF ANY BREED.
I AM NOT A BREEDER AND DONT HAVE PUPPIES. I am a concerned dog trainer/owner worried about the amount of puppy farmed dogs that go through Rescue because of behavioural problems through lack of care when breeding 'any old dog'. PUPPY FARMERS LEAD VERY LAVISH LIFESTYLES.
